Frequently Asked Questions

Starting therapy doesn't require knowing exactly where to begin.
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, talk about what brought you to therapy, explore what you hope might change, and begin developing a direction for our work together.
You don't need to arrive with the right words or a perfectly defined goal.
-
Most clients begin therapy with weekly or biweekly sessions, depending on their needs, goals, and circumstances. We’ll talk together about what frequency makes the most sense for you and can adjust as your needs change.
-
That’s completely okay. You don’t need to arrive with a topic, a perfectly defined goal, or even know exactly why you’re feeling the way you do. Part of my role is helping us explore what’s happening together. Sometimes the most meaningful sessions begin with, “I don’t really know what to talk about today.”

Yes. Parents and caregivers can be an important part of a child or adolescent’s treatment. How much parents participate will depend on the child’s age, needs, treatment goals, and circumstances. This may include parent consultations, family sessions, or collaboration around ways to support your child outside of therapy while also respecting the therapeutic relationship and appropriate confidentiality.
-
There isn’t one timeline that works for everyone. The length of therapy depends on what brings you in, your goals, the complexity of what we’re working through, and what feels helpful to you. We’ll periodically check in about your progress and whether therapy continues to meet your needs.
-
Yes. Telehealth may be available for appropriate clients depending on location, age, clinical needs, and individual circumstances. We can discuss whether in-person or virtual therapy would be the best fit for you.
-
Finding the right therapist matters. If either of us feels that another provider, specialty, or level of care would better meet your needs, we can talk openly about it and discuss appropriate options or referrals. Therapy should be a relationship in which you feel comfortable enough to do meaningful work.
